Cue the theme from Jaws

The New York Times notices steampunk!
Their take on it? “Oh those wacky kids…!”
Still, it’s kinda funny and it does have a couple of cool visuals. But it does reek dangerously of shark-jumping.

Don’t forget to get that headset!

Current Events, Olympia, Tacoma, Technology, Uncategorized, Washington State Comments (0)

Just a friendly reminder to all Washington state readers, Washington State has two cell-phone related driving laws going into effect in 2008. EHB 1214 is a complete ban on text messaging and took effect on January 1st, 2008. The other new driving law, going into effect in July 1, 2008, is the hands-free law (ESSB 5037). This law prohibits the use of a wireless device such as a cell-phone being held to your ear while you are driving. Unlike the text messaging ban, you are allowed to use your cell-phone if the communication is made using hands-free device such as a Bluetooth headset or wired headset.

Like many of the other driving laws across the United States there are exceptions during emergency situations or for on-duty public safety personnel. This is a secondary enforcement law, which means that you will only receive a ticket if you have been pulled over for another driving violation. This infraction is not placed on your driving record or reportable to employers or insurance companies.

The Evergreen Report, A Grand Finale

Current Events, Digital Media, Olympia, Podcasts, Technology Comments (0)

Four more for you here, and that’s the run of The Evergreen Report. I graduate June 13 and won’t have time for much broadcasting. I may turn up filling-in from time to time, as I do enjoy radio.

Our final four episodes:

From 5/12/08, TESC Network Services System Administrator explains what record companies are looking for when they contact the college about digital piracy.

From 5/19/08, before the sit-in, some SDS folks came up to the studio to talk about the suspension and their ideas in rsponse to it.

From 5/26/08, Talcott Broadhead, recently hired coordinator of Evergreen’s Office of Sexual Assault Prevention, or OSAP, talks about the services the office provides, and upcoming events on campus.

Finally, 6/2/08, Evergreen alumni and Olympia comics maven, Chelsea Baker, talks about the Olympia Comics Festival, happening June 7.
